Korean:  I heard you were interested in learning about our company dinners and drinking culture.

Foreigner: Yes, that's right. I've heard that
these dinners are a big part of Korean
business culture, but I don't know much
about them.

Korean: That's true. In Korea, company
dinners are often used as a way for
colleagues to bond and build
relationships outside of work. They're
usually held at a restaurant or bar, and
there's often a lot of drinking involved.

Foreigner: Really? How much drinking are
we talking about?

Korean: Well, it can vary depending on the
group. We usually pour each other's drinks and
make toasts as a way to show respect
and build camaraderie. We usually eat plenty of food while drinking, so we order a lot of dishes to share.

Foreigner: I see. So, what are some things
to keep in mind if I'm attending a company dinner in Korea?

Korean: One important thing to know is
that in Korean culture, it's polite to
pour their drink for them and then let
them pour yours in return. It's also
customary to hold your glass with both
hands when someone pours your drink
for you, as a sign of respect.

And if you're not a big drinker, you
can let your colleagues know ahead of
time so they don't pressure you to drink
more than you're comfortable with.

Foreigner: Okay, got it. Thanks for
explaining all of this to me - it's really
helpful to know.

Korean: Of course, no problem! Our
company dinners can be a lot of fun, and
they're a great way to form closer bonds
with your colleagues. I hope you enjoy
your experience!
